A March 25, 2007 article from The Washington Post reports that, effective for the 2007-08 school year, all Advanced Placement (AP) courses offered throughout the country must pass an audit conducted by the College Board. Responding to concerns from college faculty and administrators that a significant increase in the number of AP courses offered (nationally, participation has almost doubled over the past 10 years) may have resulted in less rigorous coursework, College Board officials must now approve each teacher's syllabus before a class can qualify as an AP course. The article also states that, while more students have enrolled in AP courses during the last decade, less of them are taking the corresponding AP exam (which must be passed in order to earn college credit).
