A March 13, 2007 article from the Chicago Sun-Times reports that, in 2006, more Illinois schools reached testing goals set forth by the No Child Left Behind law. Since 2003, the percentage of Illinois schools that hit testing goals has increased from 68% to nearly 82%. Elementary school test scores, especially in Chicago, showed significant improvements. While special education students did not demonstrate the same level of improvement as other groups, experts believe this may be due to the fact that a higher number of schools reported scores for a special education subgroup in 2006.
