According to a February 12, 2007 article from The Associated Press, many parents, educators and legislators are advocating revisions to how certain students are treated under the No Child Left Behind law. As it stands, the law calls for all students to be performing at grade level in reading and mathematics by the year 2014. Those who want to see the law changed believe that special education students, as well as students for whom English is a second language, should be evaluated using different criteria. One idea that has been suggested is to measure whether students are showing improvement, even if they have not yet reached a specific goal.
