According to a December 18, 2006 article from The Associated Press, colleges are increasingly focusing their efforts on assisting students who have not yet decided on a major. Delaying the decision of what major to pursue can result in prolonged college careers and, in some cases, leaving college without graduating. Students who do not know what their major will be are more apt to take extra classes that will not count toward their degree. This makes it difficult for other students to enroll in those classes, and also costs the student additional tuition dollars. Many colleges are assigning extra advisors to assist those students who need help choosing a major.
