A November 28, 2006 article from USA Today and The Associated Press spotlights recent efforts to have an automated external defibrillator (AED) available at public schools across the nation. Parents, whose children have not survived cardiac arrests that occurred on school premises, have joined together to lead the growing grassroots campaign. A small number of states, including Illinois, currently have some form of legislation mandating that schools have an on-site AED.
