Families Spending More Money to Prep Students for Elite Colleges
11/22/2006

According to a November 20, 2006 article from Money Magazine, families are spending large amounts of money on activities they hope will increase their children's chances of being accepted to an elite college. The article spotlights a New York family who, thus far, have spent over $15,000 on activities to make their high school junior a strong candidate for an Ivy League college. Among other things, this money has gone toward special programs for gifted students, private college counselor fees, and a summer in Thailand to perform community service. Included in the article are some tips to try and keep expenses for college preparation under control.

The article is available at the CNN/Money Web site.
