Renewal FAFSA
Each year the Central Processing System (CPS) creates a Renewal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for students who are eligible to participate in the renewal application process. All renewal-eligible student applicants must use the Web to reapply. Students can reapply using their PIN to complete, sign and submit a 2007-08 Renewal FAFSA online by selecting the Fill out a Renewal FAFSA option at FAFSA on the Web.

The Renewal FAFSA process is a tremendous time-saver for students because most of the information they provided on their prior-year application is carried forward and displayed on their Renewal FAFSA.  Students need only answer certain income and asset questions and update other information if it has changed from the previous year.

New in 2007-08

There are a few changes to the 2007-08 Renewal Application Process, as indicated below. More detailed information about the changes to the renewal application process can be found in the 2007-08 Renewal FAFSA Process Guide

  • Only one Renewal Reminder (via an e-mail or letter) will be sent to students in January 2007 rather than the two Renewal Reminders that were sent in 2006-07. The reminder will be sent closer to system start-up in January which should make it a more effective reminder for students. The Renewal FAFSA selection period has been extended by 11 weeks to enable as many eligible students as possible to receive Renewal Reminders and still meet important state deadlines in late February and early March.
  • Two questions about a student's interest in student loans and/or work study have been combined into one question. Data regarding these two items from the 2006-07 FAFSA will not be carried forward on the renewal application. Students will need to answer the new question.
  • The Renewal Reminder e-mail and letter text was revised to more clearly describe the process, to remind students that they can use the Renewal FAFSA to apply for aid from other sources and to provide information about important state and school deadlines.
