According to a November 7, 2006 article from The Associated Press, an increasing number of parents contact college career counselors regarding their students' job prospects, and some even go so far as to call employers. According to the article, "helicopter parents" are "... those who have hovered over their children's lives from kindergarten to college." Some such parents contact employers to inquire why their child was not offered a job or, once their child has been hired, to discuss performance evaluations. In some instances, students encourage this high level of parental involvement and tell employers they will not accept a job offer until after conferring with their parents.
