According to an October 9, 2006 article from The Associated Press, a new report from the American Academy of Pediatrics indicates more spontaneous, unstructured playtime will help to reduce stress levels in children. In an effort to give them a competitive edge, many parents enroll their children in multiple enrichment programs - some starting as early as infancy. With so many structured activities, very little time is left for children to engage in carefree play. In addition to being a stress reducer, unstructured play also helps children develop creativity, learn problem-solving skills, and better relate to their peers.
