According to a September 26, 2006 article from The Associated Press, U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings is endorsing many of the recommendations made by the Commission on the Future of Higher Education. Top among her list of goals is to simplify all components of the college process for families. Topics being considered include developing an informational database that compares various aspects of all U.S. colleges, increasing the amount of need-based financial aid available to students from low-income families, and expanding the No Child Left Behind law to high schools in order to ensure students are prepared to succeed at the college level.
The article is available at the CNN.com Web site. A related press release is posted at the U.S. Department of Education's Web site.
