The United States Government has designated September 17th as Constitution Day and Citizenship Day (also referred to as Constitution Day). When September 17th falls on a Saturday, Sunday or holiday, Constitution Day may be celebrated during the preceding or following week. Resources for students wishing to learn about the U.S. Constitution are available in the Student Zone.
As part of the commemoration of Constitution Day, we're highlighting a September 12, 2006 Chicago Sun-Times article that recognizes the first- and second-place winners of a student essay contest regarding "How do you use the First Amendment in your everyday life?" The contest, which took place last spring for students in grades 6 - 12, was sponsored by the Chicago Sun-Times Newspaper in Education Program and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL).
The article is available at the Chicago Sun-Times Web site.
