According to an August 22, 2006 Business Week article, admission officers at most business schools are looking for straight-forward and honest responses on applications and during interviews. The best approach when dealing with something that may be questioned by an admission officer (for example, a significant gap in employment history) is to give a brief explanation, without making excuses. Applicants are encouraged to answer questions based on their own beliefs and experience, rather than trying to guess what they think the admission officer wants to hear.
