Students Spending More School Time on English and Math
8/8/2006

An August 7, 2006 article from The Associated Press reports that, across the nation, many middle and high school students are receiving twice the amount of math and English instruction that had been provided to students in the past. Whether classes that focus on "the basics" are meeting for more time during the day, more days per week, or more terms per year - the end result is that students are getting additional exposure to English (including reading) and math. While school administrators are pleased to see an improvement in students' test results, they strive to provide a balance between basic skills and elective classes.

The article is available at the CNN.com Web site.
