Helping Students with Special Needs Adjust to College Life
7/20/2006

A July 17, 2006 article from The Associated Press highlights a program that provides tips on adjusting to college life for students who have special needs. Topics covered include arranging to have notes taken, using a wheelchair on uneven ground, and determining whether to share details regarding certain disabilities. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, which entitles disabled students to an individualized education plan from kindergarten through high school, does not apply at the college level. The number of college students with special needs has increased over the years, and many arrive on campus not knowing where to find the assistance they may need.

The article is available at the CNN.com Web site.
