A June 21, 2006 press release from the U.S. Department of Education (ED) discusses a recent press conference, at which Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings announced that ED's Federal Student Aid office will be notifying Pell recipients of their potential eligibility for the new Academic Competitiveness and National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) grants. Notifications will be sent via e-mail or regular mail, beginning July 1, 2006.
