A March 17, 2006 article from the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has adopted a junk-food ban for Illinois elementary and middle schools (the ban does not include high schools). Governor Rod Blagojevich requested the ban last fall. Once the ban takes effect next school year, no soda, chips or candy may be sold before or during the regular school day.
The article is available at the Chicago Sun-Times Web site. A corresponding press release can be found at the ISBE Web site.
