Some Elite Schools Recruiting Community College Transfer Students
3/7/2006

A March 6, 2006 article from The Associated Press reports that some elite private and public schools are actively recruiting transfer students from community colleges. A 2003 study showed only 3% of students at elite colleges were from families in the poorest socio-economic quartile, while the families of nearly 75% of students were from the richest quartile. Administrators at the elite schools hope that junior and community colleges will provide a pool of lower-income applicants who have demonstrated an ability to perform well in an academic environment. Experts hope that, even though a relatively small number of elite schools are currently recruiting students from community colleges, administrators at more colleges may participate in the future.
