More Families Paying Private Consultants for Help with College Admission Process
3/2/2006

A March 1, 2006 article from The Associated Press reports an increase in the number of families that are paying private consultants to help their high school seniors with the college admission process. While private consultants charge a fee for assistance typically provided at no charge by high school counselors, some families are willing to pay for the level of individualized attention that may not be available in larger public schools. In some instances, independent consultants are willing to provide their services free of charge for low-income students. Some college admission experts indicate that, while working with a consultant may help a family to feel more at ease with the admission process, students who have not benefited from private consultation are equally as likely to be admitted to their college of choice.

The article is available at the CNN.com Web site.
