A February 20, 2006 article from USA Today reports that many families do not take advantage of the education tax breaks that are available to them. According to the Government Accountability Office, a 2005 study showed that more than one-fourth of eligible tax payers did not claim a tax deduction or credit against qualifying college expenses. Included in the article is a chart that highlights the different education tax credits and deductions that are available.
