Foreign Student Enrollment Decreasing at U.S. Colleges
1/6/2006

A January 5, 2006 article from USA Today reports that, since the 2001-02 academic year, there has been a 3% decrease in the number for foreign students enrolled at U.S. colleges. At a summit of college presidents that was sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, President Bush called for increased federal funding for language training, recruitment of foreign language experts, and streamlined immigration regulations that would allow more foreign students to study at U.S. colleges. Growing opportunities available to students in other countries has increased the level of competition U.S. colleges face for foreign students.

The article is available at the USA Today Web site. A related press release is available at the U.S. Department of Education Web site.
