A November 29, 2005 article from Inside Higher Ed discusses the "Changes in Patterns of Prices and Financial Aid: Postsecondary Education Descriptive Analysis Report" that was recently released by the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). The report indicates that, while the average "net price" (i.e., the actual amount families pay after financial aid has been applied) of a college education continues to rise, it is doing so at a slower pace than the median "sticker price" (i.e., the amount charged by the college). Findings from the report also indicate that net prices appear to have increased less at colleges with a higher percentage of students receiving federal aid.
The article, which includes a link to the NCES report, is available at the Inside Higher Ed Web site.
