Rising Gasoline Costs Impact School Budgets
10/7/2005

An October 5, 2005 article from The Associated Press reports that, across Illinois, school districts are struggling to accommodate rising gasoline costs in their transportation budgets. From field trips to sporting events, activities that require transporting students are being evaluated to see where cuts might be made. For example, rather than sending the school band and cheerleading squad to "away games," only the athletes and coaches might make some trips. While many districts accounted for rising gasoline prices when they established their academic year budgets, the additional increases that have resulted from hurricanes in the Gulf area mean that budgeted funds will be depleted more quickly.

The article is available at the Chicago Sun-Times Web site.
