Education Secretary Margaret Spellings announced on Monday the formation of a commission charged with developing "a comprehensive national strategy for postsecondary education". Among the issues the commission will tackle are affordability, how well colleges prepare students for the global economy, and the lack of solid information about what colleges are and are not doing well.
While not promoting a bigger role for the federal government in higher educations, Secretary Spellings is creating the commission to fulfill what she sees as the country's need for a "coordinated approach to meet rising enrollment numbers and new economic demands".
Read more about the commission, including a list of its members, in the article available on the CNN Web Site.
