Bigger Bucks for Back to School
8/24/2005

According to a Reuters article on MSNCB.com, this year's back-to-school season is expected to be more expensive than last year's. A study by the NPD Group, a retail research group, predicts that out-of-pocket expenses will run about $372 per child, an increase of 1.4% from last year.

School supplies, apparel and footwear will probably make up the largest part of families' outlay, with denim continuing to be "the staple item found in everyone's shopping bags". Due to a decline in the price of electronics, it's expected that consumers will spend a bit more this year on clothing.
