The times, they are a'changin, and what was once a typical school environment - moving from class to class throughout the day, sitting and listening to lectures, memorizing facts - may have served its purpose in today's society. Instead, according to an article on cnn.com, 21st century schools are likely to be designed around the needs of the kids of a "consumer-oriented, choice-oriented society".
Some of the differences might include replacing corridors and traditional classrooms with a common area in the center of the building, surrounded by rooms for labs and space for seminars. And of course, technology is expected to play a major role in any newly designed school building. Can a virtual school - making the traditional school building obsolete - be far behind?
The article can be found in its entirety on the CNN Web site.
