An August 5, 2005 article from Inside Higher Ed provides highlights of a report from the U.S. Department of Education (ED), focusing on adults who participate in formal education for work-related reasons. The report, based on a study conducted as part of the National Center for Education Statistics' National Household Education Surveys Program of 2003, indicates that 40% of adults participated in work-related formal education at some level during the 2002-03 academic year. Nearly 10% of those individuals were in a college degree or certificate program.
