A June 10, 2005 article from the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the State of Illinois is expected to unveil a plan to monitor private tutors, who work with Illinois students under the federal No Child Left Behind law, more closely. Under the proposed plan, it would be easier to dismiss a tutoring firm that was not producing satisfactory results with students. According to the No Child Left Behind law, a firm cannot be fired unless it has failed to improve student achievement for two years. The proposed rules, if adopted, would mandate more stringent application, renewal, and annual reporting requirements for tutoring firms.
