A May 17, 2005 article from The Washington Times discusses a recent study of graduate level principal-preparation programs. Conducted by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), the study looked at 210 course syllabuses, covering nearly 2,500 weeks of study across 31 education colleges in the United States. In light of requirements set in place by the No Child Left Behind Act, the study's primary focus was on the topic of "managing for results." Based on the syllabuses included in the study, approximately 2% of total instruction time addressed accountability as a management issue. Nationwide, approximately 66% of school superintendents indicate that improved achievement by students is a key factor when evaluating a principal.
