Technology in College Classrooms
5/10/2005

A May 9, 2005 Associated Press article explores how technology is helping college students to more easily engage in class discussions. Handheld wireless devices, commonly called "clickers" by students, allow college professors to receive feedback simultaneously from every member of a class and then display the group's responses as a graph. Use of the clickers encourages interaction by students who might otherwise not have the confidence to share their views, and prevents a handful of outspoken individuals from dictating the direction that class discussions will take. Clickers have the ability to either identify each individual's response, or to keep the responder anonymous. In order to encourage all students to participate, most professors are opting not to identify which students provide individual responses.

The article is available at the USA Today Web site.
