High School Seniors on College Wait Lists
5/4/2005

A May 3, 2005 USA Today article explains that, across the country, many high school seniors have been accepted at one or more colleges, but remain on the "wait list" for their first-choice college. It will likely be several weeks before students on wait lists receive final decisions regarding their admission status. Colleges place students on wait lists so that, in the event students who were originally offered admission choose not to attend, the college can then admit other students. While each college is unique, sometimes students on wait lists receive admission offers after they show an interest in the college by calling or visiting campus. Although some admission offers are made as late as August, most colleges close out their waiting lists by the end of June.

The article is available at the USA Today Web site.
