Changing School Menus to Fight Childhood Obesity
3/10/2005

An Associated Press article dated March 6, 2005, reports that six schools in the Orlando (Florida) area are participating in a study to see if serving healthier food in school cafeterias can help to reduce childhood obesity. Four schools in the study are making significant changes to their cafeteria menus, while the other two schools make up the control group and will leave their menus unchanged. The study is being conducted at a time when government data indicates approximately 15% of children in the United States are severely overweight or obese. Individuals who are overweight as children may encounter problems with diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease as adults.

The article is available at the CNN.com Web site.
