A January 26, 2005 press release from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) indicates that eight school districts in Illinois will receive consolidation incentive grants, made possible when Governor Blagojevich signed Senate Bill 3362 into law. Financing for the grants is provided by the reallocation of funds saved from recent cuts to the ISBE operational budget. Over the past two decades, 103 school districts in Illinois have received consolidation funding.
