2004 Fall Seminars for Partners
Meeting Information Challenges

Too much information, too many students, not enough time, it’s tough to keep students motivated … when we asked at last year’s fall seminars, these are the most common challenges you told us you face.  So we designed this year’s fall seminar series with those comments in mind.

The 2004 Fall Seminars for Partners have been designed for our partners within the Counselor and Financial Aid Administrator Zones. This year’s agenda will make effective use of your time by offering general sessions targeted to the specific needs of three different audiences – newcomers, experienced counselors and financial aid administrators. Following the general sessions, three sets of concurrent interest sessions will provide the tools and information you need to meet your daily challenges.

Seminars will begin each day at 8:45 a.m. with the general sessions. Partners who need an introduction to financial aid and/or those who need a refresher will receive an overview of the financial aid process, the 2005-06 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and the High School Scholarship Programs (HSSP). Experienced counselors and financial aid administrators will receive operational updates for programs administered by ISAC, as well as the latest federal news.  All three general sessions will include an update on College Zone enhancements such as the development of an online FAFSA reference manual and information about ISAC’s newest electronic initiative, IllinoisMentor.

Interest session topics will include: utilizing tools and resources to help students navigate through the college planning process; understanding professional judgment in the financial aid process; and using the IllinoisMentor suite of online student services including career planning, college admissions and much more!  One of the interest sessions will focus on planning a successful financial aid night, and will be a mandatory session for any staff whose school is planning to be a Host Site for an event during Financial Aid/Admission Awareness Month in February, 2005.

We hope you’ll take advantage of this opportunity to stay current, find ways to meet your information challenges, and network with your colleagues at the 2004 Fall Seminars for Partners.
