Economy Has Impact on College Financial Aid
8/18/2009

An August 12, 2009 Newsweek article discusses the ways in which the status of the economy has impacted college financial aid. Falling revenues have resulted in many states appropriating fewer dollars for higher education. College administrators, facing limited resources, seek ways to assist students whose families are dealing with layoffs and/or assets that have significantly decreased in value. The federal government has made efforts to provide additional assistance for students, but increasing application volume means that funding may go quickly. While some families turn to private loans to cover college expenses, experts warn students to use caution and not borrow more than they will realistically be able to repay.

The article is available at the Newsweek Web site.
