An August 13, 2009 article from The New York Times reports that college textbook publishers are starting to offer students the option of renting - rather than purchasing - course materials. Having the ability to rent textbooks may be appealing to college students, who typically spend from $700 to $1,100 per year on books. Textbook rental programs are still in the experimental stages on many college campuses, and terms of the rental agreements vary by publisher.
