A July 29, 2009 press release from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) announces that nearly $4 million in federal recovery funding (made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) will be distributed to improve cafeterias in some of Illinois' neediest schools. New equipment will be purchased for 254 schools, representing 84 districts in Illinois. Enhancements will be geared toward improving the quality of meals, increasing energy efficiency of cafeteria operations and boosting participation in school meal programs.
