Federal Recovery Funding to Help Improve Cafeterias in Illinois' Neediest Schools

A July 29, 2009 press release from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) announces that nearly $4 million in federal recovery funding (made available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) will be distributed to improve cafeterias in some of Illinois' neediest schools. New equipment will be purchased for 254 schools, representing 84 districts in Illinois. Enhancements will be geared toward improving the quality of meals, increasing energy efficiency of cafeteria operations and boosting participation in school meal programs.

The press release, which includes a listing of the Illinois schools districts that will receiving federal recovery funding, is available at the ISBE Web site.
