A July 20, 2009 press release from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) announces that Illinois is one of five states that will receive technical assistance from the National Research Center for Career and Technical Education (NRCCTE) in order to expand green-focused career and technical education programs of study. Assistance from the NRCCTE will be used in the development of technical and academic content that can lead high school graduates to an industry-recognized credential, associate or baccalaureate degree. Emphasis will be placed on programs of study at Illinois secondary and post-secondary institutions, with a specific focus on energy, utilities and waste management.
