According to a June 19, 2009 article from The New York Times, colleges across the country are seeking to minimize the effects of shrinking budgets by making several small changes that they hope will add up to significant savings. Changes being made on some college campuses include everything from eliminating landline telephones to cutting back on garbage removal and window washing. In addition, luxuries that were offered to boost student enrollment in past years (such as free laundry service and premium cable channels) are being eliminated. Many colleges are looking at ways to save money that will also help the environment, such as reducing the use of paper and water.
