'Even Start' Grants Help Low-Income Families in Illinois Improve Literacy Skills
6/17/2009

A June 15, 2009 press release from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) announces that $2.5 million in Illinois Even Start Family Literacy Program grants will be awarded to educational partnerships around the state, in an effort to promote literacy among Illinois families. The partnerships - which include school districts, regional offices of education, higher education institutions and community organizations - will use grant money to focus on improving literacy skills for low-income children and their families. Literacy programs may include a combination of early childhood education, adult literacy, parenting education, and interactive parent and child literacy activities.

The press release is available at the ISBE Web site.
