A June 7, 2009 article from the Los Angeles Times encourages families to research all their options prior to deciding which, if any, loans to borrow for a student's college education. Because of its low interest rate, and the fact that no interest accrues while the student remains enrolled on at least a half-time basis, the subsidized federal Stafford loan should be considered first. Other available loan options, each having different interest rates and terms for repayment, are also described in the article.
The article is available at the Los Angeles Times Web site.
