High School Dropout Rates Declining in Weak Economy
4/23/2009

An April 22, 2009 MSNBC article reports that, across the country, the economic recession seems to be prompting many students to return to (or stay in) high school. Faced with a weak job market, more teenagers are opting to earn their high school diplomas in order to increase their chances of finding steady employment in the future. The article provides examples from Elkhart, Indiana, where the economy has had a strong impact on the local recreational vehicle (RV) market. Nationwide, enrollment rates at community colleges and for GED courses have also increased.

The article is available at the MSNBC.com Web site.
