An April 1, 2009 article from The New York Times reports that states will soon be able to receive their share of $44 billion in economic stimulus funds, to be used to improve education and retain teachers. A second phase of funding will be made available later this year but, before receiving those additional funds, states will be required to first provide detailed information about their public schools to the U.S. Department of Education (ED). Test scores and graduation rates are among the types of information that will need to be reported.
