A March 2, 2009 USA Today article reports that many college students are feeling the impact of the current economy in their daily lives. In order to stretch their limited budgets, students are limiting how often they drive their cars and trying to eat more meals at home rather than buying food at restaurants. Some colleges communities are seeing an increase in the number of students visiting food banks. As the economy has worsened, financial aid offices at colleges across the country have received more applications for assistance, along with an increase in the number of requests for special review due to unusual circumstances (such as the loss of a parent's job).
