Some Fear Cursive Writing May Become a Lost Art
1/23/2009

According to a January 21, 2009 article from the Chicago Sun-Times, the instruction of classic penmanship is not always the classroom staple that it had been in years past. An emphasis on standardized test preparations, coupled with students' gravitation toward e-mail and texting as primary means of communication, may be diminishing the focus on teaching cursive writing skills. While many elementary schools continue to include penmanship as part of the core curriculum, the instruction tends to concentrate more on efficient mechanics than cursive writing as an art form.

The article is available at the Chicago Sun-Times Web site.
