A December 9, 2008 press release from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) announces that, for the third year in a row, Illinois has been ranked among the top ten states for new teachers achieving National Board Certification. 703 Illinois teachers achieved National Board Certification, which is the teaching profession's highest credential, in 2008.
