A December 1, 2008 USA Today article reports that a teacher in California is selling advertising space on his classroom tests, in order to offset printing costs. Because the copying budget is less than the projected cost of printing all tests for the year, the teacher decided to supplement his funding with advertising revenue. While some experts are apprehensive about providing marketers with direct access to students, the current economy may prompt more teachers to find creative ways to pay for the resources they need. The National Education Association estimates that, on average, teachers spend approximately $430 of their own money on school supplies each year.
