An October 21, 2008 press release from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) announces that analysis of the 2008 State Report Card (which will be released on October 31st) shows several Illinois schools have made significant improvement with respect to meeting federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) standards. Student performance, attendance rates and graduation rates at 35 schools and 11 districts in Illinois have increased to the point where they have made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two consecutive years, allowing them to be removed from "improvement" status. Due to the fact that NCLB performance targets are increasing, the total number of schools and districts making AYP has decreased.
The press release is available at the ISBE Web site.
