Wind Turbines Can Save Energy While Educating Students
10/17/2008

An October 14, 2008 USA Today article reports that the 'Wind for Schools' program assists schools in obtaining small wind turbines, which can be used to provide environmentally-friendly energy while educating students about renewable energy sources. The program, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy's Wind Powering America program at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, is in the process of bringing small turbines to Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska and South Dakota. Currently, wind turbines are present in some form at more than 80 schools across the country. If wind energy continues to grow at its current annual rate (25%-30%), it may provide approximately 20% of the electricity used in the United States by the year 2030.

The article is available at the USA Today Web site.
