The following is based on information from the October 3, 2008 Mapping Your Future E-Update.
Mapping Your Future offers initial and subsequent counseling for the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant, making it the 17th counseling session available in Online Student Loan Counseling (OSLC).*
The TEACH Grant counseling session provides information about the terms and conditions of a TEACH Grant service agreement, as well as the rights and responsibilities that apply if a grant is converted to a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan. Regulations require TEACH Grant applicants to complete an initial counseling session prior to each grant disbursement. If a student receives more than one TEACH Grant, he or she must complete subsequent counseling. Mapping Your Future's counseling session serves both purposes. To experience TEACH Grant initial and subsequent counseling from the student perspective, follow these steps:
- Go to the Mapping Your Future home page at MappingYourFuture.org
- Click the "complete Online Student Loan Counseling" link on the left side of the page
- Select "TEACH Grant initial and subsequent counseling"
- Choose Texas as your state
- Select MYF Demo School as your school
Mapping Your Future anticipates offering TEACH Grant exit counseling in the late fall or early winter, bringing the total number of available counseling sessions to 18.
If you have an existing OSLC account for your school and would like to add TEACH Grant counseling to your participation categories, contact Mapping Your Future at feedback@mappingyourfuture.org. If you don't have an OSLC account, complete the school submission form at mappingyourfuture.org/oslc/schoolsignup.cfm to request participation.
Further details regarding OSLC, including a listing of all available counseling types, are provided at the Learn more about Online Student Loan Counseling page of the Mapping Your Future Web site.
* OSLC is a free service, provided by the guaranty agencies from around the country - including ISAC - that sponsor Mapping Your Future, as well as the Friends that support the organization. All of the counseling sessions are guarantor and lender neutral.
