Libraries' Digital Connections Keep Them Popular Among Students and Adults
7/29/2008

According to a July 28, 2008 USA Today article, the ability of libraries to embrace the digital age has resulted in their increasing popularity among both students and adults. Whether to utilize free Internet access, attend a class or check out a book, more and more people are visiting libraries on a regular basis. Although some had projected that the rise of the Internet might lead to the demise of public libraries, the reality is that libraries are the only means of Internet connection for families that cannot afford to have their own connections at home. Many libraries are able to provide free Internet access using funds from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which sponsors a national program that has been bringing the Internet to libraries since 1997.

The article is available at the USA Today Web site.
